NBC Activates Copy Protection Flag in DRM Test-Run
posted on May 15th, 2008 by Leviathan in General Fail
NBC turned on a copy-protection flag this week on some of their programming as a test-run to see what users’ reactions would be if they could no longer record this content using external recorders like Windows Media Center. NBC has stated that it was a mistake but it appears more likely that it was indeed a test run. This is a scary reminder that DRM doesn’t combat piracy - it exists only to strictly control what consumers do with their multimedia.
