Google and Scientology unite?
posted on May 15th, 2008 by geehumshriber in General Fail
According to The Register, Google has killed the Adsense account for Anonymous, one of the worlds largest anti-Scientology groups. It seems as though Google is now delving into the deep pockets of the Church of Scientology. Google recently released a new Adsense polcity that states that partner sites may not promote “advocacy against any individual, group, or organization.”
Yesterday, the search giant cut off all ads served to Enturbulation, a fledgling site dedicated to promoting activism against the Church of Scientology and all its related organizations.
Try plugging in Anonymous into Google and watch the Adsense return a result of:

Flaw Transforms Gmail Into Open-Relay Server

And here we all thought Google’s services were without flaws, and that our data was completely safe. Ars Technica has a story revealing that:
A recently-discovered flaw in Gmail is capable of turning Google’s e-mail service into a highly effective spam machine. According to the Information Security Research Team (INSERT), Gmail is susceptible to a man-in-the-middle attack that allows a spammer to send thousands of bulk e-mails through Google’s SMTP service without fear of detection. This attack bypasses both Google’s identity fraud protection mechanisms and the current 500-address limit on bulk e-mail.
Yikes.

Introducing Google Bag View
posted on May 8th, 2008 by Leviathan in General Fail
I suppose there are worse things the Google fleet could catch on camera while cruising our streets. It appears that Alaska has been invaded by an army of bags which have attacked and captured one of the Google vehicles responsible for capturing Street View images. From Gizmodo:
One of the occupational hazards of Google Street View is, I guess, having the camera obscured by something. It could be a pterodactyl, perhaps, flying low for a closer view, it could be a giant Monty Python-style animated brogue homing in on the car as if it were a roach ripe for the squishing. Or it could be a plastic bag. One minute it’s dancing around, American Beauty-style, the next it’s spread-eagled over the camera rather like an over-amorous spinster at a barn dance. This is what Minnie Street in Fairbanks, Alaska, looks like, according to Google Street View.
